Job Description

As a Design Assistant at Australian Defence Apparel Pty Ltd, you will play a crucial role in supporting the design team in delivering innovative and high-quality soft goods tailored for the Defence and Law Enforcement sectors. Your creative input and attention to detail will contribute significantly to the overall design process.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Assisting designers in the development of new designs by preparing sketches, mood boards, and prototypes.
  • Conducting research on industry trends, fabrics, and materials to inform design decisions.
  • Maintaining an organised library of samples, fabrics, and finished goods for reference during the design process.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including production and marketing, to ensure designs align with product specifications and branding requirements.
  • Preparing technical specifications and documents necessary for garment production.
  • Participating in fittings and providing feedback on fit, construction, and style to improve product outcomes.
  • Assisting in the coordination of project timelines and ensuring that deadlines are met throughout the design cycle.

Desired Skills and Experience

Required skills

  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Experience with Laser Cutting/3D Printing/3D Rendering and/or any other concept fabrication techniques is desired.
  • Experience in Solidworks or CAD Program is desired.
  • Proficiency in creating technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of colour theory, typography, and layout principles.
  • Excellent creative and artistic skills with an eye for detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Required experiences

  • Advanced Diploma in Industrial/Fashion Design
  • A minimum of 1-2 years' experience in a design or creative role.
  • Experience working on design projects from concept through to completion.
  • Familiarity with Design trends in Industrial Uniform and Personal Equipment specialising in complex user requirements.
  • Portfolio showcasing previous design work and creativity.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including sales, marketing and product development.
